Harriet Erickson

Professor Harriet Erickson has served as the Head of the Department of Criminal Justice at Boston Coast University for over two decades, where she has been a pioneering force in the study of criminal justice systems and their intersection with social justice issues. Her research interests lie at the convergence of criminal justice policy, legal reform, and human rights, with a particular focus on the ways in which these systems impact marginalized communities.

Dr. Erickson’s scholarly work is dedicated to exploring and addressing the complexities of criminal justice administration through a multidisciplinary lens. Her research integrates insights from law, sociology, and public policy to investigate issues such as systemic inequality, restorative justice practices, and the efficacy of criminal justice reforms. Her approach is both analytical and applied, aiming to bridge theoretical frameworks with practical solutions for enhancing justice and equity within legal institutions.

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Erickson has authored and edited numerous influential publications. Her seminal books include Justice Reimagined: Reforms in the Criminal Justice System (Harvard University Press), which examines innovative approaches to criminal justice reform, and Systemic Inequities: The Role of Policy and Practice in Legal Outcomes (University of Chicago Press), a comprehensive study on the impact of legal policies on different demographic groups. She has also published a range of articles and book chapters on topics such as the effects of punitive policies on minority populations, the role of advocacy in legal reform, and the evolution of restorative justice methods.

Dr. Erickson’s most recent work includes a co-edited volume, Redefining Justice: New Perspectives on Legal Reform and Human Rights (Cambridge University Press), and a series of articles exploring the global dimensions of criminal justice issues. Her ongoing research continues to address contemporary challenges in the criminal justice system, with a focus on advancing human rights and fostering a more equitable legal framework.

A committed advocate for justice both in and out of the classroom, Dr. Erickson also engages in public scholarship and policy advocacy. She believes that the study of criminal justice is not merely an academic pursuit but a vital endeavor for fostering societal change and upholding the principles of fairness and equality.
