Dr. Grace Thompson has been a cornerstone of the Performing Arts Department at Boston Coast University for over three decades, where she has dedicated her career to advancing the study and practice of performance art. Her scholarly focus encompasses a broad spectrum of performing arts disciplines, including theatre, dance, and performance studies, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of performance with social justice and community engagement.
Dr. Thompson’s research interests lie at the confluence of performance theory and practice, exploring how performance art can be a transformative tool for social change and cultural expression. Her work investigates the role of performance in shaping and reflecting societal issues, with a special interest in how historical and contemporary performances address themes of identity, activism, and intercultural dialogue. She employs a diverse methodological approach that integrates performance analysis, historical research, and community-based practice to deepen our understanding of the role of the performing arts in both historical and contemporary contexts.

Her recent work includes a co-edited volume titled Performing Arts in the Global Context: New Perspectives on Tradition and Innovation and a forthcoming book on the evolution of performance art as a medium for social commentary.
